One advantage of living for longer than a couple of decades is possessing the perspective that comes from witnessing history, of living through it, and not merely reading about it. I’m a little tickled at today’s youth when they get so upset upon learning, or experiencing, something their ancestors would only laugh at today. The Chicken Little syndrome of believing that the sky is falling seems to disturb the young more than the old. Maybe it’s because senior citizens have seen it before. They’ve lived through it. Despite predictions, the world didn’t end. It doesn’t mean we don’t strive hard for peace, justice, and equality. It does mean though, we don’t get so caught up in righting humanities wrongs that we commit other sins, and by doing so, bring the sky down on ourselves.
