Agape Love

It’s so hard because selfless love is counter to both our culture and our natures. Of the four types of love (affection, friendship, erotic, and agape) agape is the only type that is selfless.

Are we capable of agape love, you know, the kind of unconditional, selfless love that God has demonstrated toward His children?  Yes, but only to the extent that we give the details of our love relationships over to God. Apart from Christ we can do nothing, but through Him all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). It’s safe to assume that means loving the way God does. When you think about it, there really is no other reasonable option than to lean in and trust God and make Him the center of all our relationships. Difficult though, right? It’s so hard because selfless love is counter to both our culture and our natures. Of the four types of love (affection, friendship, erotic, and agape) agape is the only type that is selfless. Therefore, it’s impossible to have authentic love without the power of Christ in our life and in our relationships.
