parents and child blowing out candles

Live Better

One of the driving forces in American culture is the yearning of parents to give their children a better life, with more opportunities than they themselves had. That motivation comes from two healthy sources. Every loving parent wants good for their kids. That’s natural. By striving to meet that goal, they are also investing in the future well-being of society.  They are paying it forward, so to speak. I fear though we may have now gone too far. Bolstered by the godly desire to give our children a better life, we’ve showered them with unwarranted praise, smothered them with unneeded attention, and have given them too much stuff.  We’ve confused giving them what they want, with providing them with what they need. But what is that if we fail to show them how to live better?
