A Seedling

There’s a tree in my yard that bends. As it grows, it will eventually break under its own weight.  It’s inevitable, and that’s a shame. When it comes down, it will take years to replace, probably more years than I have left to live. There’s an old Chinese proverb which speaks to the need of every parent to teach their children early: “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago.”
