People who are hurting inside often take their pain out on innocent others who had nothing to do with causing it. They may have anger, resentment, or some heartache they’re trying to cope with and they take it out on easy targets. There’s nothing abnormal about it. It’s just human nature. Hurting people hurt people. Of course, this can become a vicious and destructive cycle as their victims become perpetrators themselves. So how do we break it? The best thing to do is to realize the source of the problem and don’t take it personally. Instead, return their offense with kindness. Decide you are going to respond differently. Be positive. Be constructive. Be a healer. Be a minister of reconciliation by responding with gentleness and understanding.
