Hard Lesson

Life is one long hard lesson in humility. Our life is a sermon on the foolishness of this world. Our birth is the preface. Our youth is its introduction. Several chapters are written in adulthood. The longer we live, the more we write. Each chapter extols a proposition, a life lesson learned from either the column of our successes, or from the list of our failures. Finally, the last chapter of our story closes. A doxology is sung, a benediction is pronounced. All we’ve ever learned, all we have ever done, everything we’ve ever accomplished, is bound together and shelved along with billions of others. Few, if any, will read it and learn from our lesson in humility.
