They Always Want More
Notice the countless recommendations, starting on page 3, of the CWLA, 2024 Legislative Agenda, titled, Congress must: increase, strengthen, expand, create, ensure, extend, fund, require. Notice anything? Every recommendation is about the system, as if it was a factory that needs to increase its output in order to keep up with demand. More. More. More. Welcome to the Child-Welfare-Industrial-Complex – see Failure to Protect for an example.
But We Still Get More Bad Outcomes
Child Trends: 8 Trends to Know About Children and Families for 2025, has both good and bad news. A million more kids have fallen into poverty since Covid (bad news), but there are fewer kids in foster care (good news). The latter is due to the increased focus on kinship care, and that is what needs to be increased, strengthened, expanded, funded, and required.
