Some Say…

Some say poverty is the mother of all social problems. Some say that sin’s the cause, and some say the poor will always be with us, so why should we even try?

We can spend our time listening to the myriad speculative voices, or stop and ask, “Heavenly Father, what do You say?” We’d do well to be reminded that spiritual poverty and our fallen condition are the root of all social problems, and that God has called His people to meet the practical needs of those around us, while advocating for the oppressed and standing with the voiceless. We can ask God for His divine wisdom when it comes to doing something about poverty, since His heart is for the poor and He knows just what they need much better than we do. We might be surprised at what He reveals when we stop to listen. We may not understand the complexities of poverty, but we can surely seek the One who has all the answers.
